Packing it up

Three years ago Shane and I sat in a Mexican restaurant in Port Douglas on our second family holiday up north and set a date. June 2012. We were going to go and spend a year in Italy with Charlie and Sam, perhaps not work, and just BE.

One week ago we had packed up our house in Clifton Hill, put everything except 4 suitcases in storage and were ready to escape the cold Melbourne weather.

In theory, 3 weeks before leaving seemed like a luxurious amount of time to pack up the house and get everything organized. They say that moving house is one of the more stressful things you can do. Packing up a house surely fits that box too. 3 weeks wasn't enough to do it without being stressed. Regardless of the lists and the exercise book I carried around in my bag for those 3 weeks, I still couldn't find things, forgot things, put things in storage for the boys' books that were meant to come with us.

Nevertheless, we made it - got on the plane at 10.30 on Friday 29th June with no major disasters and only a little bit of drill sergeant  to get ready on time. That first Singapore Airlines bloody mary was FABULOUS!!!
